July 25, 2012 an animal was uncaged by the Apple Inc. Aptly named the OS X Mountain Lion, it arrives as the ninth release in the series of OS X systems for Macs. This version of the operating system claims to fulfill the wishes of users who were disappointed with its ascendant’s and critics & users are all praises for this mountain terrain animal. What makes this operating system one of the best in Apple’s history? Let’s find out:
Price: Mac OS upgrades are not complicated anymore. Remember those days, when people used to throng around Apple retail stores to get their hands on the latest operating system? Those days are gone now. We witnessed the low profile release of Snow Leopard which was just priced around $29. But, this upgrade seems to be lower than that. Released at the online App Store, the operating system is now available at its cheapest best, $19.99.
Social Media Integration: Social networking sites enjoyed a sound role in the iPhone; the same gets repeated with the Mountain Lion. The integration of Twitter into the OS means that you can tweet from where you are, without needing to change the tabs and windows. Post this; a similar integration will be introduced for Facebook.

Windows 8 – one of the most anticipated operating systems of the year is scheduled for an October 26th launch. Its consumer preview version that released a couple of months ago was subjected to a mixed response. Like any other operating system, it too had its own set of issues and minor flaws and failed to provide the usual windows experience (or we can say partially succeeded).
Though, visually a stunner, its certain modifications and enhancements were not welcomed by many. But, it’s never too late. Here are some fixes for some of the common annoyances in the OS, which you can use and implement it even on the final version of its release.
Bring back the good ol’ Start Menu:
The extinction of Start menu from Windows 8 by Microsoft came out as a shocker, resulting in making multi-tasking much more tedious. When the user requires to open an additional application in the Windows 8, he has to move away from the current desktop, reach for the modern interface start screen and launch the other application that he wanted to, which will eventually bring him back to the initial desktop environment. Such a long process for a simple need! However, there are available certain third party applications over the internet that allows us to install and revive the start menu. Thus, normalcy returns!

Recently my graphic design class had a discussion on high end video editing. Several types of software and hardware options were discussed and we got to visit a local company that does production work. While touring the render farm, we were shown something I had never seen before. The render wrangler pulled a drawer out of the server rack and popped open a screen. They were using a high resolution Rackmount LCD with an integrated keyboard drawer to manage the whole system.
I was curious how the one Rackmount Monitor Keyboard combo was handling all of the servers so he pointed out what he called DVI KVM Switch directly below it in the rack. The KVM Switch also supported high resolution video. Though they are both only DVI-D single link devices, they support 1920×1200 resolutions as well as a Full HD 1080p. It really is amazing that all of that computing power can be so easily harnessed and controlled through a combination of equipment that only takes up 2U of rack space.
If a Rackmount LCD unit sounds like something you can use, get a great deal on them at KVMSwitchTech. Tell them Kate sent you for the best deal. Call them at (866) 865-7737.

Advantages of Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard:
Snow Leopard was able to catch the imagination of many Mac users when it was first launched. Now, Mountain Lion seems to be drawing the same number of enthusiastic users. Although Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard have many similarities, there are certain incremental changes made to Mountain Lion that make installing it a good decision.
The iCloud: There is iCloud document storage feature in Mountain Lion that is absent in Snow Leopard. By developing on Lion’s basic cloud integration, Mountain Lion’s iCloud is a feature that helps in accessing documents and files stored on the cloud. With this new feature, you can sync all your files, calendars, contacts, messages. This feature connects all your Apple devices together.
